In 1991 Mariah released her second album, Emotions, and she showed up to the Billboard Music Awards in a pink ruched dress complete with large hoop earrings. We love her effortless curly up-do and the sultry brown/nude smokey eye. Side note: we are very happy that we don’t see nylon tights like that on the red carpet anymore!

This photo is the epitome of early-90’s Mariah Carey glam. This was the year that Mimi released her 3rd album, Music BoxWe love her voluminous curls in that half-up-half-down style, and how iconic is that red dress she wore to the 1993 Grammy Awards?! After the success of Mariah’s 4th album, Merry Christmas (1994), Mariah released Daydream in 1995. The close-up shot of Mariah on the album cover is stunning, of course, and we love how natural her makeup look is. Although it seems Mariah fell victim to the late 90’s trend of over-plucked eyebrows, we’ll forgive her because that windblown hair is giving us major diva vibes and we’re so here for it.

After the release of her 6th album, ButterflyMariah Carey showed up to the 1997 VMAs with a different hairstyle. This was one of the first few times we saw Mariah on a red carpet without her curly locks. Instead, she opted for a bouncy blow-out with curls at the bottom and completed her look with bronzer and nude lip gloss. It seems like Mimi rocked side bangs long before they were popular in the mid-2000s… talk about a trendsetter!
