Each Beauty Girl Boss You Should Know

Being a Girl Boss Isn’t Easy, but Someone has to do it

Every woman is a girl boss in her own right. However, when it comes to the beauty industry, there are a few ladies who take “girl boss” to another level! In an industry that thrives off the woman’s dollar, it is fulfilling to know that those dollars are mostly going back into the hands of women. Not only do these ladies shape innovation, but they redefine the way we see beauty, and inspire the next generation of girl bosses who want to dominate their career paths. That said, take a look at some of the girl bosses who inspire us right now.

Jen Atkin

The hairstylist turned beauty business mogul is the true definition of girl boss! Jen got her start in Hollywood, Jen Atkin and worked with celebrities like Kim Kardashian-West, Katy Perry, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Lopez. According to her website, Jen drew inspiration to start her hair care line, OUAI, from her frequent travel across U.S., Europe, and Middle East. The subscription model of Jen’s digital saves women time and creates an easy, convenient online shopping experience. Not only is the website easy-to-use, but so are her multi-use products and supplements. Not only does Jen own OUAI, but she owns Mane Addicts, too. Mane Addicts is a digital community that curates content focused on hair and brings together professionals and consumers alike.

Emily Weiss

When we talk about a self made girl boss, the Glossier Founder & CEO must be on this list! When she first began Glossier in 2010, it was simply a blog called Into the Gloss. Not quite unlike many blogs, her blog focused on the ins and outs of the beauty and fashion worlds. Fast forward ten years, and Glossier is now valued at $1.2 billion after they successfully raised $100 million in Series D funding. As a quick reminder of what Glossier is, it’s the quintessential beauty company selling products for you hair, skin, and body. Recently, Emily was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2019 Webby Awards, an awards platform that recognizes Internet businesses like Glossier. Indeed, that girl boss reign is not letting up.

Pat McGrath

No beauty industry girl boss discussion is complete without “mother” herself, Pat McGrath. The celebrity makeup artist turned business mogul should be the benchmark for any under served woman looking to break into an oft “exclusive” industry. The Northampton born girl boss received no formal training in making or fashion, yet, her work dominates high fashion runways season in and out. For over two decades, Pat McGrath collaborated with brands to create beauty products. Some of these brands include: Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabana, Cover Girl, and Max Factor. During Fall 2015, Pat launched her first makeup product to much anticipation. When the queen of American fashion, Anna Wintour, proclaims that you’re “the most influential makeup artist in the world” you know you’re doing everything right! While we can go on and on, just know that this April, Pat McGrath Labs became Selfridges biggest selling beauty line, selling a product every 40 seconds. Now that is how you girl boss it up!

Jessica Alba

Quiet as it’s kept, Jessica Alba is a girl boss for more reasons than her company Honest Beauty. The billion-dollar business mogul launched Honest Beauty back in 2015. The company boasted a clean line of cosmetics that were free of parabens, mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, and other gook! While being “clean” can be trendy for other companies, it’s a lifestyle for Jessica and her companies. The premise of her Honest companies is to empower people to live healthy, happy lives. A girl boss who is all about empowerment? Now that’s something we can get behind!
