How to Find Your Makeup Mood

Your makeup mood says a lot about who you are and how you feel, babe

What’s your makeup mood today? The way we feel is often worn in our facial expressions, hair, apparel, and yes, makeup. Like any other form of expression, makeup is one of the ways we choose to showcase our personalities and many moods. Whether you’re more of a bright red lip, any time, any occasion kind of girl, or you’re a cat eye liner, no less, kind of girl, there is a look for you! That is why we rounded up five types of looks that can work with your makeup mood. If you’re feeling for it, be sure to try these out!

Happy

Go for a bright palette – think teals, yellows, light purples and lime greens. Be sure to keep your skin tone and eye color in mind when choosing a color that will work for you. We love this makeup look that NYC-based MUA, Markphong Tram, did recently. If you have hooded eyelids, this is the part where you take notes!

Relaxed

For a relaxed look, minimal makeup is where it’s at. Put on some nude lipstick and lightly coat your lashes with brown mascara. You can dab some rosy blush onto your cheeks if you’d like to add a little more color to your face, but keep the makeup light and avoid using dark colors. Jut in case you missed it, we believe that Ashley Graham is the queen of understated, minimalist glam. If there’s anyone you should take notes from when going for a relaxed look, it should be her.

Had the honor of reading at one of my best friends weddings yesterday and they chose a compelling quote from one of my favorite authors, Brené Brown. — “We cultivate love when we allow our most vulnerable and powerful selves to be deeply seen and known, and when we honor the spiritual connection that grows from that offering with trust, respect, kindness and affection. Love is not something we give or get; it is something that we nurture and grow, a connection that can only be cultivated between two people when it exists within each one of them – we can only love others as much as we love ourselves.” Make sure to show yourself some love today❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

 Sultry

Shiny metallic eye shadows are great for expressing sensuality. Brush some bronze eye shadow on your eyelids and dab some on the inner corners of your eyes. You can smudge some dark colored eyeliner on your lower lids to really set the mood. Trust us, those around you will feel the heat. If you need some more inspiration, check out this oil spill, sultry look that one of Beyoncé’s MUAs, @rokaelbeauty, did on Beyoncé for the LA premiere of The Lion King.

Confident

Nothing says confidence like vibrant red lips and bold brows. So, brush on some of your favorite red lipstick and fill in those brows with a color closest to your naturally hair color (just don’t get too crazy) and you’ll show the world that you’re ready to take on anything. One of our favorite beauty influencers, @makeupshayla, knows how to nail a bold makeup look. If you’re not feeling to wear eye shadow, no worries! Ditch the shadow and rev up the red lips for a confident look.

Rebellious

This one is all about the dark side. Who better to look for inspiration on “rebellious” makeup than the rebel queen herself, @badgalriri?! As she did for this recent Fenty Beauty ad, smudge black eyeliner or a dark brown shadow on your lower lash lines, top your upper lash line with a winged eye liner, and go for your favorite shade of plum!
