How to Get Ariana Grande’s Famous High Ponytail

It’s no secret that pop star Ariana Grande is as known for her high ponytail as she is known for her many hits. While it may seem simple – it’s only a high ponytail after all – a lot of people struggle to pull it off. With summer upon us, we can’t think of a better ‘do to keep you fly and dry for all your summer outings. We scoured the Internet to find some tips and tricks that could help you nail this iconic high ponytail look. Watch this tutorial by YouTuber Jess Chic and follow these steps below.

Begin With a Blow Dry

The celebrity secret to the super-smooth ponytail is a strategic blow dry. So, start by drying your roots in the direction of the base of your ponytail. Using some heat and a brush to redirect the hair at the root will make sure you’ve got the smoothest pony around.

Secure a Half-Up Ponytail First

It’s easier to get the height you want if you start with a half-up half-down ponytail. So, after you’ve blown out your roots in the right direction, use a comb or boar bristle brush to smooth out any bumps. Then, take the top half of your hair and secure it with a small hair elastic where you’d like the base of your pony to be.

Add the Other Bottom Half of Your Hair

Next, you can take the remaining half of your hair and add it to the half-up ponytail. Doing this in 2 parts allows you to get both the top and bottom completely smooth and bump-free.

Wrap a Sliver of Hair Around the Hair Elastic

To hide your hair tie, take a note out of Ariana’s book and wrap it with a piece of hair. Use a tiny bit of gel to smooth the ends before you secure it in place using a bobby pin.

Grab a Toothbrush and Hairspray

Pro tip – Spray some hairspray onto a toothbrush and use it to smooth down any flyaway hairs.

Yes, she does! If you’re looking for additional length, you can add in extensions when you secure the bottom half of the ponytail with the top half!
