This unexpected beauty trend took over the Critics’ Choice Awards red carpet

Winter may be nearly over, but this beauty trend isn’t! This past Sunday during the Critics’ Choice Awards, we learned that not only is winter white trending, but dark, vampy lips are too. Gone are the days of reserving dark colors for colder months of the year; these a-listers showed us that you can break every rule and look fab while doing so!

Entrepreneur, mommy, and social media clapback queen, Chrissy Teigen, gave us old school Hollywood glamour. When Rihanna wore her hair flipped at the ends last year at Coachella, we thought it was a beauty trend only she could pull off – per usual. However, with her bob slicked back and flipped at the ends, Chrissy proved us wrong! The 60s hairdo added the right amount of flair to her white evening gown and thigh high split. In the case of dark lips, Chrissy went with a deep rouge hue that complimented her tan skin and rose quartz cheeks perfectly. Somehow, we know Marilyn Monroe is pleased. 

In a stark departure from her softer Golden Globe Awards look, Emmy Rossum was a whole mood with her Black Swan-esque ensemble! Emmy opted for two major Spring beauty trends: a top and bottom knot; dark lips. To play up her gothic look, Emmy rocked a velvet evening gown and antique gold jewelry. Yes, velvet is best worn during winter, but rules are meant to be broken, no? Will you now reconsider putting your velvet pieces in storage?

Breakthrough actress, Kiki Layne, is having an entire moment and we love it! Kiki wore her hair off her face with a half up/half down kinky do and kept her makeup natural and glowing. While there are many ways to rock a smokey eye, we love that she went with an earth-toned finish. Her lips were dark, glossy, and poppin’ – everything we love about this unexpected Spring beauty trend! Kiki, do you love us? Because we sure love you!

Another dark lipped beauty was Pose actress, Indya Moore. Indya gave us boho-Grecian vibes that may be odd to some, but worked for us. Although you may expect a look like this to be topped off with a softer lip color, Indya rocked the dark lip beauty trend effortlessly. Her braided hair crown and teased hair finishes off this carefree look that inspires us to keep things easy in 2019!
