Summer Beauty Tips for a Hot Girl Summer
It won’t be a ‘hot girl summer’ if you don’t follow these summer beauty tips
A hot girl summer calls for summer beauty tips that will apply pressure and beat the heat at the same time! You’re really not about that life if your fresh face of glam is melting off during a hot summer day. That ain’t cute, boo! Before your melted makeup plays you, follow these four tips that will keep your beat while you make your rounds.
Primer
Everyone meet primer; primer meet everyone. We know that you two just met, but we can already see a beautiful relationship forming. You two should definitely get to know each other a bit more. If you’re a real makeup junkie, primer is already your best friend anyway. There is a primer out there for every skin type and tone. The thing we love most about it is that it is super easy to apply! Rub a small amount of it into your skin before applying your foundation to keep your face fresh all day long. In the heat of Summer, primer will be the the most important thing used to prevent your makeup from sweating off.
If you don’t want to break the bank on primer, our editors tried Maybelline’s Master Prime. This primer comes in five options depending on your skin’s concerns. For Summer heatwaves, you may want to try the Blur + Smooth option.
Less Is More
We understand how fabulous a full face of makeup can make you feel; however, on a day where you will spend the majority of your time basking in the sun, it’s simply impractical. May we suggest that you keep your makeup minimal? Stick to a tinted moisturizer with SPF protection, and steer away from powders during those hot, sticky days. Unless you want a case of summer acne, avoid powders! If you’re still not convinced, powder seeps into your face when it gets oily from sweat, creating more of an emphasis on your pores. A tinted moisturizer with SPF on the other hand looks a lot more natural and protects your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Great deal, right? It’s a two in one special, the Olive Garden of makeup you could even say.
There are many tinted moisturizers on the market, but we hear that NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is pretty great! It’s available in 12 shades and recommended for people with hyper-pigmentation.
No Shine Needed
A natural glow is great and all, but when your whole face is iridescent, that’s another story. Blotting papers are the biggest thing since sliced bread, and they should really be more popular. Your local pharmacy or beauty supply store should carry them, if you ever want to try this underused beauty secret. Think of them as a handkerchief made just for makeup. When you feel a bit of sweat, just blot your skin gently with one of those savory papers and ta-da! You definitely want to keep a nice summer glow going, but you don’t want to be shiny to the point where people know it’s not your highlight but your sweat.
If you’re trying blotting papers for the first time, we highly recommend Boscia’s Clear Complexion Blotting Linens. Not only are they affordable, but they contain natural willow bark which is an anti-inflammatory agent that is perfect for acne-prone skin.
Waterproof Makeup
There are waterproof versions of most makeup products, thank goodness. Waterproof makeup is truly the perfect solution in many situations – watching The Notebook, a first date where the guy takes you swimming (joke’s on them), and for those extra sweaty days. If you want to try and avoid your makeup running, then this is the fix for you. It’s especially helpful when it comes to wearing colored makeup. The last thing you want is your red lipstick running down your lips, let’s save the Joker for Batman! Keep in mind that waterproof products, especially mascaras, tend to include harsher ingredients (that’s how they last so long!) so it’s best to use them occasionally, rather than every day.
Hopefully these tips can help you avoid running to the bathroom every 5 minutes to fix your makeup. We’ve all been there, and that’s why we thought to share these summer beauty tips with you! If you have any of your own that you would like to share, leave a comment below. We’d love to hear from you!
