The Beauty of Fashion

The beauty of fashion, emphasis on beauty.

In episode 11 of American Beauty Star, the final five contestants faced their toughest challenge yet. To show the beauty of fashion, each contestant got a 3-piece collection from one of these iconic designers: Michael Costello, Rebecca Minkoff, Bryan Hearns, and Bao Tranchi. With some designer direction, the remaining artists had to create cohesive hair and makeup looks to compliment their mini-collections. But, executing three looks on a time crunch is no easy task! So, the final five artists paired up with an eliminated contestant to bring their designer’s vision to life. Check out the final looks below and let us know which one is your favorite!

Contestant: Axel

Mini Collection designed by Michael Costello

Axel’s 3-piece collection was designed by none other than Michael Costello, and he wanted an updated Old Hollywood glam vibe for the hair and makeup. Axel used gold foil to create a unique winged eyeliner, and went with red glittery lipstick. Former contestant Ronaldo was brought back to help Axel emphasize the beauty of fashion and create his looks.

Contestant: Diana

Mini Collection designed by Christian Cowan

Christian Cowan designed this stunning 3-piece mini collection, and asked Diana to create a fantasy look influenced by the style of the ’20s. So, Diana used a mix of textures in the hair, including retro finger waves. For the makeup, Diana went with smoked-out wings on the eyes, and a graphic heart-shaped lip. Former contestant Brittney paired up with Diana to help her create the 3 looks.

Contestant: Lucy

Mini Collection designed by Bryan Hearns

Bryan Hearns designed this gorgeous 3-piece collection, and asked Lucy to create 90’s grunge-inspired hair and makeup looks. Lucy drew inspiration from Andy Warhol and Jeremy Scott, so she created colorful, full-faced looks to emphasize the beauty of fashion in this collection. She cut wigs from She Professionals into medium-length bobs, curled in at the bottom. Lucy had help from Kendra to create these looks.

Contestant: Oz

Mini Collection designed by Bao Tranchi

Bao Tranchi designed this stunning 3-piece collection, and asked Oz to create a strong, powerful look. The beauty of fashion lies in allowing the dresses to steal the show. So, Oz pulled her models’ hair back into slick, ‘wet-look’ ponytails. For the makeup, she went with sexy, smokey eyes to make a bold yet feminine statement. Jayson was brought back to help Oz create these looks.

Contestant: Samson

Mini Collection designed by Rebecca Minkoff

Samson’s gorgeous 3-piece mini-collection was designed by Rebecca Minkoff. She wanted effortlessly chic, French-inspired hair and makeup looks. So, Samson created loose waves in the hair and even used faux bangs on one of his models. He went with a natural smokey eye, and elegant lipstick in various shades of red for the makeup. But, since effortless makeup is all about minimalism, Samson decided not to contour any of his model. So, he used blush to add dimension instead. Ricardo was brought back to help Samson create these looks.
