How Selfies Can Boost Your Self-Esteem
There’s nothing quite as satisfying as taking the perfect selfie. Yeah, you know what we’re talking about. But…is this a good or bad thing?
Of course, we’ve all heard the horror stories… camera rolls full of photos that just did not make the cut. But is there more to this than just the average bad angle? If you’re reading this chances are you’ve had first-hand experience with the negative effects of social media. Let’s be real…spending hours scrolling through our social feeds is not necessarily a healthy habit. One hour in and we’re hardcore comparing ourselves to a 20-year-old model living in a Paris flat with her Welsh Corgi named Phillip. It is SO REAL but we’re here to talk about the positive.
A recent study states that the act of actually publishing a selfie can significantly increase your feelings of self-worth. The peer-reviewed online journal, First Monday, conducted a study confirming that the act of publishing a selfie, along with comments from fellow social media users, boosts self-confidence. There’s even a hashtag confirming this! So yeah, it’s kind of official. The #HealthySelfie hashtag has over 33,000 photos of people from all around the world who use selfies to keep themselves uplifted and inspired. Now you don’t need to feel as awkward when someone catches you midway through taking one.
In need of some self-confidence? Take out your camera, snap a photo of yourself and share it on social!
