How to Makeup, but No Makeup Your Look

Who knew that makeup but no makeup look would trend on a major awards show red carpet this year? During the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards, several of our faves showed us that subtlety is the essence of glamour and inspired us to scale it back a bit.

Before you start panicking, you will wear makeup in a makeup/no-makeup look. We know you’re a glamour girl who loves her makeup, rightfully so. However, what may change most is how much makeup you apply to achieve this natural finish.

Don’t let them eat cake

Crazy Rich Asians star, Constance Wu was a fresh faced beauty on the red carpet! She ditched matte foundation and opted for a dewy finish. While matte foundation can be good for oily skin, it gives you a cakey look if you apply too much of it. If you must use a matte foundation, set it with a powder that glows, such as Becca Cosmetics’ Soft Light Blurring Powder. Remember: the key to a makeup/no-makeup look is to look effortless.

Eyes are the prize

Although Halle Berry’s bare face convinces us that she can walk any red carpet and still look stunning, her makeup/no-makeup look works just as well too! Halle’s nude lips and soft pink cheeks drew attention to her full eyelashes. When in doubt, just add mascara – lots of mascara (or falsies, if you may) – and you’re in for a flirty look!

Keep it Switzerland

It goes without saying that a makeup/no-makeup look is optimal with neutral colors on the lips, cheeks, and eyes. Just like Constance and Halle, Hollywood sweetheart, Julia Roberts went heavy with her eyelashes and light on her lips. Go for a tone that closely matches the natural color of your lips and top with lip balm or gloss.

All in all, we love looks that don’t pressure us! These ladies showed us that less is not only more, but oftentimes it’s best! No need to overcompensate with a face full of cake when you can let your natural beauty, outfit, and personality shine.
