Markphong Tram is a MUA for Every Girl

Markphong Tram has a Talent for Working on All Skin Tones

When it comes to versatility, we can learn a thing or two from NYC-based makeup artist, Markphong Tram. In an industry where many women and men have been excluded, it is refreshing to see a guy like Mark. Not only does Mark create killer looks, but he does it for women of all skin types!

If you doubt the importance of inclusion, consider the seismic changes Fenty Beauty brought about in the industry after its Fall 2017 launch. Consumers are no longer willing to patronize companies that do not create products or experiences that cater to all women. Of course this expectation isn’t limited to cosmetic companies – it’s expected that makeup artists are just as pliable. His pliability is what makes Mark so special – he is ahead of the game; a star player in the making, if you must.

To help you get to know this infectious makeup artist a little bit better, we asked him five questions like we did Chanté Jackson. Check out his answers below.

Q. What’s your favorite beauty product right now?

A foundation I’ve been using for a while is Christian Dior’s 24h Skin Caring Foundation. It has SPF 35, goes on smoothly, and stays on all day.

Q. If you could choose five makeup products to use for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Like I said, I need Dior’s 24-hour foundation! I like Fresh Rose Face Mask because it’s hydrating and feels good on. Innisfree Green Tea Seed Eye & Face Ball is a must for de-puffing, hydrating, and smoothing out your skin.  Laura Mercier’s  Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Glow is perfect because it’s iridescent, lightweight, and works for every skin tone. Finally, Mamonde Brightening Cover Watery Cushion because it’s lightweight, has SPF 50, and evens out your skin tone.

Q. Who is your favorite makeup artist?

I actually have two favorite makeup artists right now! First is Peter Philips who is a legend in the industry. He is one of the most talented, humble, and adorable makeup artists in the world to me. I love the range of his work – he can go from clean, natural beauty to high end, editorial beauty. Hungvan Ngo is my other favorite. I consider him to be a rising star in this industry because he is so hard working, talented, and supportive. Reading about his journey to becoming a makeup artist has been so inspiring.

Q. When you’re not doing makeup for your clients, what is something you do for fun?

I like to laugh a lot! Comedy shows on Netflix are my favorites. I also like walking around New York City aimlessly for hours. There is always something new and interesting happening in this city every day.

Q. Describe your fashion and beauty aesthetic in one word… or two.
