How a Feud Translates to Sold Out
The Jordy Velvet Lip Kit Sold Out, Guys… Let that Sink in
A retailer’s favorite phrase is “sold out” and for Kylie Cosmetics, that phrase is heard often. When she first launched her lip kits, Kylie cashed in on her celebrity and sold out in one minute! This past week, Kylie Cosmetics experienced another sold out moment, but not for a good reason. The “Jordy” velvet lip kit, that was part of the collaboration between Kylie Jenner and Jordyn Woods, sold out. Why the sudden interest in a lip kit that’s been out for months now? Recently, news broke that Kylie’s bff, Jordyn Woods, had an affair with Khloe Kardashian’s baby daddy, Tristan Thompson. Yes, you read that right; yes, it is a hot mess, perfect for the next season of KUWTK, no less.
BFFs forever?
It seems that being a Kardashian/Jenner friend is the gift that keeps on giving. Back in December, Khloe and lifetime bestie, Malika Haqq, partnered up for Becca Cosmetics’s #BeccaBFF collection. The collection includes highlighters, blush, bronzers, and lipsticks. This collection hasn’t sold out as yet. Khloe and Malika’s collaboration was not the first time someone from the Kardashian-Jenner camp teamed up with a close friend to create cosmetic magic.
Last September, Kylie and Jordyn launched a makeup line for Kylie Cosmetics. Their collection played up a lot of the makeup looks we came to love on Jordyn: bronzey, glossy lip colors, blush, and eye shadow. Cashing in on their friendships is sort of a sport for the Kardashian/Jenner sisters. Not only does it make sense, but it could be a testament to how loyal they are to those who are loyal to them! Seriously, can we consider being a Kardashian/Jenner bestie a personality trait?
As mentioned, Jordyn might be ousted from the Kardashian/Jenner camp. If you take a gander over to the Kylie Cosmetics website, you will notice that Jordyn’s lip kit is now 50% off, along with a few other lip kits. As of the time we wrote this article, the Jordy Velvet Lip Kit is sold out. Page Six reports that the Kylie x Jordyn collection bundle is selling for hundreds on eBay, with markups as high as $400! While it would be weird and downright messy if Jordyn actually hooked up with Tristan, it’s safe to say that both Kylie and Jenner are still winning in this situation! Part of me hopes that this is all a hoax and things are well in the Kardashian/Jenner camp. After all, “the Devil works hard, but Kris Jenner works harder”, and we’re dealing with a family that has historically made well of any bad situation. What better way to make well of a bad situation than having thousands of your products selling out?
There is no such thing as bad press
Drama could be bad for business long-term, though. The vicious rivalry between Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubenstein, for example, ultimately led to their ruin. The 2017 musical, War Paint, depicts the story of two cosmetic industry moguls who hated each other’s guts yet never met a day in their lives! On one hand they made millions from it, copying each other’s products, stealing each other’s capital, and so much more – but their feud blinded them to competitors and changing tides in the marketplace.
In any event, like many others, we are waiting with baited breath to hear the truth. When will that come? Who knows? It could be a week from now; a year from now; or on the next season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. In any event, we know who is laughing all the way to the bank in this situation and we assure you, it’s not Tristan Thompson.
